Running From Sun-Up To Sundown

I don’t know how some people do it, I really don’t. We have three boys, my wife is a stay-at-home mom, and I am a work-from-home dad. We still seem to run out of time at the end of the day.

The boys have so much energy they run from sun-up to sundown and they never seem to stop until they drop. A friend of mine and his wife are wanting to have another baby (they have two children already), but he would have to undergo a vasectomy reversal just so they could try. I’ve heard that vasectomies can be reversed, although I wouldn’t know first hand. ;)

I’m Not Sleepy Yet

Here it is almost 4 am and I am still sitting here at the computer. Well, I lied. I am actually sitting in the recliner, surfing the web, checking email, and now posting this entry, from my Nokia N810. I sure love this little device and it makes my life so much easier. I should be sleeping by now, but for some reason my brain just won’t shut off tonight.

Most nights, I get tired around 2am, sit and watch some tv and am asleep long before 3. Normally, I wouldn’t need to worry about participating in a sleep study because I can sleep just fine, that’s never my problem.

My doctor did recommend that I take part in a sleep study a couple years ago, however, because of my acid reflux and other breathing issues I was having.

Since then, I have lost over 30 pounds and I am no longer suffering from the adverse affects I was experiencing before. If I didn’t lose the weight I would have found myself at a sleep disorder center taking part in a sleep study to see what they could do for my breathing. It’s amazing. I was one of the lucky ones that could control my sleep disorder by eating better and taking care of myself.

The Government Is Blinding Me

We spent this last weekend making a list of the things we could do with our government “stimulus” rebate. We could pay off a bill or two, take a small vacation, get some dental work done, or purchase some things for the house that would make it much more comfortable in the summer. I spent the better part of Sunday night looking at discount window blinds, trying to decide which would look best in our front windows, and which ones would look best in the basement.

Last year we purchased a set of Custom Blinds Faux Wood which were perfect in our living room. They work great when we’re trying to watch a movie or one of our favorite shows. We simply lower the blind a bit and it reduces the glare on the big screen television. You have to love that. I know I do.

One of the benefits of buying cheap blinds with our stimulus check is that we would have enough money left over to purchase something else as well. Once the windows are taken care of though, I know the air conditioning bill will be a lot less this summer and we’ll save even more money. Now I just have to check with Gidget and see which ones she likes best.

Six Months And Counting

It’s been six months since I flew out west to drive my mom all the way across our great nation to live in Georgia. As you know from reading my blog, she had some issues that stemmed from the current mortgage crisis and she had trouble securing a new home loan in time.

It’s all good though, because she’s now living here in Georgia and she is just a few miles down the road. We can visit anytime and everything is good. One thing I have learned a lot about in the past six months is home loans and how they work. Oh sure, I am a homeowner, but I never really gave the whole loan process any thought. When we found the house we wanted, we made sure we could afford it and we bought it. Pretty simple stuff.

Little did I know how much home loans really entail and how much they vary from lender to lender. I am one of the lucky people in this whole mortgage fiasco, because I have a home loan with a fixed rate, so things are good. When I bought this house, people kept telling me not to go for an adjustable rate mortgage. I’m real glad I didn’t.

That Secure Feeling

Earlier this month I inquired about purchasing an ADT home security system because of a spat of recent break-ins in the homes around our neighborhood. It seems there is a group of teenagers that has decided to “check out” peoples homes while they are away. They always hit the same area and they always do so in the daytime.

The one thing they haven’t done though, is hit a house that that an ADT alarm system installed. Even though I work from home all day, there are many times when we have to run to the store or to see family members, and I think it would be better for our piece of mind if we had a system installed.

It would also come in handy during the times I am off on business and the wife and kids are home alone. I know my wife would feel more secure knowing that the perimeter of the house was being monitored by ADT home security, and I would feel better knowing she is feeling secure.

I’m not sure yet which package to go with, I am going to have to give that some thought, because I don’t want to purchase more than is required, but I definitely want to have exactly what we need.

Consolidating The Services

This past month, when I paid my phone bill, I decided to look at the different ATT Phone Deals I could get. I’ve had Bellsouth (well, now AT&T) phone service forever, so there really wasn’t any type of deal I could get that would change my phone bill all that much. I already have unlimited long distance as well as the options I would want on my account.

After looking at the phone deals I checked out some of the ATT Bundles that include other services. I have their dsl internet service, although I would really like the higher speeds. That won’t happen though, because everytime I call AT&T with a service request I have to argue with them for 10 minutes that I even have internet service. Their bundles include a few different options, but I am not ready to switch my cell phone service to them, so those bundles aren’t for me either.

The last thing I looked at was the possibility of switching to them for my satellite tv needs. We are too far from anywhere with cable t, so I am stuck with satellite. At this point, their ATT Satellite TV Deals would make a lot of sense, but I’m not sure I want everything all on one bill, through one service just yet.

Sorting Photos Is Fun

Before Christmas, we spent hours going through ten years of digital photos to put them together into sets, so we could start getting them printed into photo books for the family. We didn’t realize what a daunting task that would be until we sat down and actually looked at the number of photos we have taken in the past decade.

We have several shoeboxes full of “regular” photos we took when our oldest was just a little guy, but almost everything we have taken is digital, and we want to make sure that in addition to all of our cd backups, that we also have photo prints of all of the really good ones.

Now that the price of digital cameras is making them easier to purchase and the cost of getting digital photos printed is getting lower, we’re bound to get many photos printed this year. I would love to get a photo calendar done for each of the boys, using photos taken during each of the months in the preceeding year.

Then again, that would mean having to choose 1 photo out of each of the hundreds taken for that month, and how do you do that? It’s hard, especially when you are the one who took them and can remember each shot taken as if it was just yesterday.

The Difference Is Astounding

Last year I mentioned a friend of ours who had undergone oral chelation to help with a myriad of problems he was having.

After years of high cholesterol and other problems he turned to oral chelation to see if it could produce results that nothing else was able to. Oral chelation basically cleans your blood by allowing a synthetic amino acid to bind itself to any heavy metals that are present in the blood. It is also believed that the synthetic amino acid attaches itself to free radicals, calcium and other minerals.

I’m not really sure how it works, or why it works, all I know is that our friend is a far cry different than he used to be. Before he had the chelation therapy, he didn’t really do much. He spent most of his time sitting in front of the television watching sports, never participating in them, and he weighed more than double what I weighed at my heaviest.

Now it’s a completely different story. He has more energy than I do, he’s much more active than I am. He actually plays softball on one of the local teams, and worst of all, for me anyway, is that he is now a bit thinner than I am. It’s time for me to get off my butt, that’s for sure.

Moving Down The Road

Working in information technology you never know what’s going to happen one day to the next. Whether that troublesome server is going to act up during your only vacation of the year or that new software you installed last week is now obsolete, there is never a dull moment when it comes to working with computers.

A friend of mine is having just such an experience. He spent the better part of last week, comparing all the different Movers Fort Worth has to offer. Why? Well, the company he works for was aquired by a larger company and now he is relocating to the Fort Worth area. Well, that is if he can decide on which Moving Company in Fort Worth to go with.

He has spent the past 15 years in Colorado and is going to have one heck of an adjustment period when he gets to Texas. I tried to describe some of the differences to him, but I think he’s going to have to see it to believe it.

He has a lot of stuff to move, and although it’s really not that far of a move, not like moving from Nevada to Georgia like I did, he wants to make sure he picks the best Mover Fort Worth has, because he doesn’t want to have to worry whether or not his stuff will arrive safely in Texas. I wish him luck deciding, that’s for sure.

Is Reflection An Age Acquired Talent?

The last 24 hours has been very exhausting.

It all started last night around 9pm when storms moved through the area. The storms developed quickly and people were caught off guard. Before the night was over, a tornado ripped through downtown Atlanta and we were watching a line of strong storms coming over the state line.

Twenty four hours later I am sitting here reflecting on all that has transpired and I cannot help but think about those whose lives were lost and my own mortality. I guess this is something that comes with age, because I don’t remember doing this after earthquakes or other events when I lived out west.

I spent an hour this evening making sure all of my important papers were in order, I don’t know why, it just made me feel better. I do know, that if I didn’t already have life insurance provided by my employer, I would be looking to purchase a universal life insurance policy right now, because with the way the storms were just missing us last night, it’s just a matter of time before we pull the short straw.
