Sherrill "Shaun" Nielsen Dies

Sherrill "Shaun" Nielsen, a gospel singer who performed with Elvis Presley, has died at age 68.

Nielsen's publicist, Aaron Crisler, says Nielsen died Friday of lung cancer.

Nielsen is survived by his wife Brenda Hall Nielsen. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Cullman, Ala.

Heda Margolius Kovaly Dies

Heda Margolius Kovaly, who wrote a widely acclaimed memoir, "Under a Cruel Star," about the horrors she endured first in Nazi concentration camps during World War II and later under communist rule in her native Czechoslovakia, died Dec. 5 in Prague. She was 91 and had Alzheimer's disease.

Her survivors include a son from her first marriage, Ivan Margolius of Bedfordshire, England, and five grandchildren.

Samuel P. King Dies

Samuel P. King, a federal judge who mobilized the power of the pen to topple overseers of one of the nation’s wealthiest charities, a 19th-century trust set up by Hawaiian royalty to educate the kingdom’s natives, died Tuesday in Honolulu. He was 94.

The cause was complications of a fall the day before, his daughter Charlotte King Stretch said.

Besides Ms. Stretch, Judge King is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Anne Van Patten Grilk; a son, Samuel Jr.; another daughter, Louise King Lanzilotti; and six grandchildren.

James Moody Dies

Jazz saxophonist James Moody is best known for his 1949 "Moody's Mood for Love," but when he recorded the hit that eventually was elected into the Grammy Awards' Hall of Fame, he said, he was just "trying to find the right notes."

Moody, who recorded more than 50 solo albums as well as songs with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and B.B. King, died Thursday at San Diego Hospice after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer, his wife said. He was 85.

Dov Shilansky Dies

Dov Shilansky, a Holocaust survivor and former speaker of the Israeli parliament, has died. He was 86.

Born in Lithuania, Shilansky emigrated to Israel in 1948.

Shilansky is survived by a son. His funeral is scheduled Friday in Tel Aviv.
