Antonio Pettigrew, who gave up his 2000 Olympic sprint-relay gold medal after admitting to doping, was found dead Tuesday in his car near his North Carolina home. Pettigrew, an assistant track coach at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill for the past four seasons, was 42.

The sheriff’s office in Chatham County, just southwest of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, said in a statement that deputies found Pettigrew about 3:15 a.m. in the back seat of his car on a bridge. His wife, Cassandra, had reported him missing from their home in Apex.

Besides his wife, Pettigrew is survived by a son, Antonio Jr.

Rest In Peace, Antonio.
