Lacrosse Gloves Recalled

From the CPSC website:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Youth and Adult Brine VIP Lacrosse Gloves

Units: About 7,000 in the United States and 30 in Canada

Manufacturer: Brine, a division of Warrior Sports Inc., of Warren, Mich.

Hazard: Screen printing ink used on the silver triad logo on the back of the glove contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves black and white Brine VIP lacrosse gloves sold in three sizes: 10, 12 and 13 inches. The name "Brine" is printed in white and a silver triad symbol is printed on the back of the glove on the wrist cuff.

Phillip Walker Dies

Blues guitarist and singer Phillip Walker, who backed such stars as Etta James and Lowell Fulson, has died. He was 73.

Marc Lipkin, publicity director for Alligator Records, says Walker died Thursday of heart failure in Palm Springs.

Daniel Schorr Dies

Daniel Schorr, whose journalism career over more than six decades landed him in the dark corners of Europe during the Cold War and the shadows of President Richard Nixon's notorious"enemies list" in the 1970s, has died. He was 93.

Schorr died Friday at Washington's Georgetown University Hospital after a brief illness, said his son, Jonathan Schorr.

Schorr is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lisbeth, his son, Jonathan Schorr, daughter, Lisa Kaplan, and one grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Adas Israel Congregation in Washington

Larry Keith Dies

Larry Keith, a veteran television and stage actor who was in the original cast of the soap opera “All My Children” and who was also the first American to play Henry Higgins in “My Fair Lady” on Broadway, died on Saturday in Manhattan. He was 79 and a Manhattan resident.

The cause was cancer, his daughter, Lisa Korn, said.

Besides his daughter, Mr. Keith is survived by his wife, the former Mina Wagman; a brother, Alvin Korn; and a grandchild.

Kenny Guinn Dies

Former Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn, a two-term moderate Republican whose tenure marked a prosperous era in a state now facing severe budget problems, died Thursday after falling from the roof of hisLas Vegas home while making repairs. He was 73.

The predecessor to current Gov. Jim Gibbons was pronounced dead at University Medical Center, where he was taken after the fall, Coroner Mike Murphy said. Authorities were investigating whether the death was from natural causes or an accident.

Billy Vassiliadis, a friend and spokesman for the Guinn family at the hospital, said Guinn had been on the roof making repairs. He said Guinn's wife, Dema Guinn, found him and called 911. Police received the call just after 10:30 a.m.

Kenny and Dema Guinn have two sons.

Rest In Peace, Kenny. You'll never be forgotten.
