Chasing The Future

I don't blog too much about NASCAR over here anymore, but I still watch, and of course I am still a fan. I cannot say I am as devoted as I was a couple of years ago, but I am still a diehard fan when it comes to Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Ryan Newman, Michael Waltrip, and now, Tony Stewart.

Many things have happened over the course of the past few years that cast a very disconcerting light on NASCAR as a whole, but there have been some very bright spots as well. One of the best things to happen in NASCAR was the joint venture between Tony Stewart and Gene Haas to form Stewart Haas Racing.

While it is weird watching Joey Logano drive the Home Depot car, it's good to see Tony Stewart doing what he does best, which apparently includes owning a race team.

This season hasn't been the best for the StewartHaas teams, but with Tony sitting in 9th place (and in the chase) and Ryan Newman sitting less than 100 points out of the top 12, this could be a very exciting Chase year for the team. If both drivers make the Chase, they stand a good chance of dethroning the current champion, Jimmie Johnson.

Word has it that NASCAR is thinking of changing the Chase format next year, which could make or break the entire sport (again). The Chase was not popular in the beginning, and I have my doubts that NASCAR will do the right thing, but either way, I am sure the guys at StewartHaas will be in the field of top drivers for years to come.
