Suso Cecchi D'Amico Dies

Screenwriter Suso Cecchi D'Amico, who emerged from the male-dominated post-war Italian cinema to become a celebrated artist and contribute to such milestones as "Bicycle Thieves" and "The Leopard," died Saturday at age 96.

Cecchi D'Amico died in her hometown, Rome, the ANSA news agency said, citing her family. No cause of death was given.

ANSA said she is survived by her three children. A funeral is scheduled for Monday in Rome.

Jim Cole Dies

A Montana man who recently published a book about surviving two attacks by grizzly bears has died of natural causes. Jim Cole was 60.

Gallatin County Coroner Mike Chesnut said Cole died July 22.

Al Goodman Dies

Al Goodman, the soothing bass in the chart-topping rhythm-and-blues trio the Moments (later renamed Ray, Goodman & Brown), best known for the 1970 hit “Love on a Two-Way Street,” died on Monday at a hospital in Hackensack, N.J. He was 67 and lived in Englewood, N.J.

The cause was heart failure, his son James said.

Willie Albert Goodman was born in Jackson, Miss., on March 30, 1943, one of seven children of Albert and Ethel Adams Goodman. Besides his son James, he is survived by his second wife, the former Henrietta Young; three brothers, Benny, Charles and Milton; three sisters, Ruthie, Gayle and Beverly; two other sons, William and Brandon; three daughters, Linda, Rhonda and Stephanie; and one grandson. His first marriage, to the former Alice Lewis, ended in divorce.

Jack Tatum Dies

Jack Tatum, 61, a defensive back for the Oakland Raiders whose bone-jarring tackles earned him the nickname "the Assassin," died July 27 at a hospital in Oakland, Calif., after a heart attack.

Survivors include his wife, Denise; and three children.

Maury Chaykin Dies

Canadian actor Maury Chaykin has died at age 61, his manager said Tuesday.

Paul Hemrend said Chaykin died at a Toronto hospital surrounded by family early Tuesday morning — the day of his birthday.

Mark McKinney, who produced Chaykin's most recent series, the HBO Canada sitcom "Less Than Kind," said the veteran actor died after battling kidney problems.

He is survived by his wife, actress Susannah Hoffman, and their daughter Rose.
