Sen. Robert Byrd Dies

Robert C. Byrd, an orphan from the West Virginia coal fields who served more than half a century in the Senate and used his canny, masterful knowledge of the institution to protect its rules, shape the federal budget and, above all else, tend to the interests of his impoverished state, died Monday. He was 92.

Elected to an unprecedented nine terms, beginning in 1958, Sen. Byrd served for nearly a quarter of the nation's history, and on Monday his Senate desk was draped in black cloth and white roses.

My brain is still trying to understand why a former Klansman deserves the recognition he is getting, but for what it's worth…

May your soul rest in peace, Sen. Byrd.

The Important First Step

In recent years it seems as though drug abuse and addiction levels have been on the rise. I am not sure if there are more cases today than in years past, or if there are just more reported cases now.

Whether someone is addicted to alcohol or drugs, the first step in recovery is admitting there is a problem and seeking help to break the cycle of addiction. When a family members suffers from one of these addictions, or any addiction really, it can have an effect on everyone, from family members living in the home to those extended family members who may be trying to help.

Everyone involved, whether the person with the addiction or those seeking to help, should turn to Drug Rehab Guides. You can't break the cycle of addiction if you aren't familiar with the treatment options available.

From detox through counseling, until follow up, it's important to know each step of the process and what will be expected of you. It's also important for your family members to gain insight into what you'll be experiencing so they will be better prepared to help you when the time comes.
