Michael Blosil Dies

Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son Michael Blosil has died, the entertainer said Saturday.

Osmond said in a statement through her publicist that her family is devastated by the "tragic loss." She did not provide details on the death.

Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site that Blosil jumped to his death Friday night from a downtown Los Angeles apartment building.

Michael is one of Osmond's five adopted children. She also has three other children from two marriages. She divorced Brian Blosil in 2007 after two decades of marriage. She and her first husband Stephen Craig divorced in 1985.

Rest In Peace, Michael.

Rep. John Linder Announces His Retirement

I was shocked to learn today that Rep. John Linder (R-GA) will be retiring.

U.S. Rep. John Linder has announced he will retire from Congress after 18 years.

The Republican from Gwinnett County made the announcement Saturday at the dedication of a new Gwinnett County GOP headquarters. Linder aide Derick Corbett said that Linder would not be seeking re-election.

What a shame. One of the loudest voices in support of the Fair Tax is John Linder. Hopefully someone steps up to continue the good fight.

Andrew Koenig Dies

Vancouver police say "Growing Pains" actor Andrew Koenig has been found dead.

At a press conference in the downtown park where his body was found, police said foul play was not suspected, but would not release a cause of death because the coroner is still investigating.

The actor's father, Walter Koenig, said his son "took his own life." Walter Koenig played Pavel Chekov on the original "Star Trek" TV series.

Rest In Peace, Andrew.

Kermit Tyler Dies

Hawaii-based pilot Kermit Tyler thought the big blip on the radar screen on Dec. 7, 1941, was a fleet of U.S. B-17 bombers due in from the mainland, so he replied "don't worry about it" when told of the approaching mass that turned out to be the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Tyler, who was ultimately cleared of wrongdoing, has died at age 96, content he did all he could that morning.

He was the Army Air Forces' first lieutenant on temporary duty at Ft. Shafter's radar information center in Hawaii when two privates reporting seeing an unusually sizable blip on their radar screen, indicating a large number of aircraft about 132 miles away and fast approaching.

After Pearl Harbor, Tyler flew combat missions in the Pacific. He retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in 1961, launched a career in real estate, and was a landlord.

Tyler is survived by three children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, and a son.

Rest In Peace, Kermit.

John Babcock Dies

John Babcock, who joined the Canadian Army at 15 and ultimately became the symbol of an embattled generation as Canada’s last known veteran of World War I, died Thursday at his home in Spokane, Wash. He was 109.

His death was announced by the Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, who called him “the last living link” to a war “which in so many ways marked our coming of age as a nation.”

His death leaves Frank Buckles, 109, of Charles Town, W.Va., as the last surviving American citizen to have served in an Allied military force during World War I. Mr. Buckles drove a United States Army ambulance in France.

Mr. Babcock is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Jack, and his daughter, Sandra Strong, from his marriage to his first wife, Elsie, who died in 1976; his stepsons, Eric and Marc Farden; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Rest In Peace, John.
