It's Official. It's Dead.

Two days ago I woke up to the smell of something electrical burning. It turned out to be the power supply box on the back of my PC.

After years of building my own PC's this was my first "store bought" machine in a long, long time. I save everything around here, but I did not have the right box to swap out so I had to pick one up. After picking it up I was able to put everything back together only to find out that one of the system memory chips was bad. So I removed it.

After doing so, the machine still wouldn't boot. It turns out the main hard drive was dead. I ran Spinrite to see if I could recover the drive, but it was dead dead. I mean DEAD.

I scavanged in the basement for an older replacement hard drive, installed it into the machine, and I have the basic stuff installed on the PC again. Tonight, I am running SpinRite on my backup drive which is also acting weird, in that I cannot access half of the drive at all.

Wish me luck, it's going to be a long night because I really don't need to lose that much data in one event.
