You Don't Think About Insurance, Until You Have None

It's been almost one year since I was laid off from my "day job". Things have been rocky, and a bit stressful at times, but we're managing, thank the Lord.
One thing I miss from my benefits package I had is the access to a mail order pharmacy. It was nice to be able to order the regular monthly medications we needed via mail order, so we didn't have to make constant trips down to the local pharmacy.
Being without insurance doesn't mean I am just lacking health care coverage, but I also don't have vision, dental, short term, or long term disability insurance. I hope I never need the last two, but it was nice to have at the time just in case anything ever did happen.
While I am on the subject of insurance I guess I should mention pet insurance too, since we've had animals here in our house over the past couple years that really could have used it. It wouldn't have helped where Flash was concerned, as his cancer had spread quite rapidly, but it would really help where Chuck is concerned. Chuck needs constant checkups for his eye, to make sure it isn't degrading, and to make sure the medicines we are using to help restore as much vision as possible are working.
It's been a year since Chuck moved in with us, and he can now see more shadows and movement in the eye. The same eye that was swollen and puffy with little hope for any recovery. It's been tough paying for the monthly treatments, and once I start making enough money to pay for it, I will get him under some sort of insurance plan.
