A Return Of The Grocery Tax?

Believe it or not, this sounds like a really good idea, as long as the end-of-the-year credit is equal to or greater than the actual tax amount paid for groceries.
The Georgia House may vote later this week to raise taxes.
The tax-hike proposal is HB-67, sponsored by a south Georgia Republican, Rep. Chuck Sims, who is the Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.
The Committee's plan would re-instate the state four-percent sales tax on groceries, but allow Georgia income-tax filers to apply for a credit, every year, for the amount of state sales taxes they paid, all year, for groceries. That would result in, possibly, $250 million a year extra for the state — extra revenue from Georgia residents who do not apply for the income tax credit, and from out-of-state shoppers and illegal residents who cannot apply for it.
That is, if there has to be a tax anyway, we might as well make sure everyone pays, including the illegal aliens taking residence in our state. Everyone pays when they buy cars, televisions, and MP3 players, they may as well pay it for groceries too.
