They’re still announcing peanut butter recalls every day, and now this.

Federal food safety officials warned Monday that consumers should stop eating all foods containing pistachios while they figure out the source of a possible salmonella contamination.

Still reeling from the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts, the Food and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Farms, the nation’s second-largest pistachio processor, was voluntarily recalling all of its 2008 crop – more than 1 million pounds of nuts.

Two people called the FDA complaining of gastrointestinal illness that could be associated with the nuts, but the link hasn’t been confirmed, Acheson said. Still, the plant decided to shut down late last week, officials said.

The recalled nuts represent a small fraction of the 60 million pounds of pistachios that the company’s plant can process each year and an even smaller portion of the 278 million pounds produced in the state in the 2008 season, according to the Fresno-based Administrative Committee for Pistachios.

What do these companies do when something like this happens? When an airline cancels a flight or has some other issue, they offer free hotel rooms to travelers. What do the food companies do when they sicken people?

Monte Hale, one of the last of Hollywood’s celluloid “singing cowboys” and a founder of what is now the Autry National Center of the American West, has died. He was 89.

Hale had been in failing health and died Sunday of age-related causes at his home in Studio City, according to a statement from the Autry National Center.

In 2004, Hale was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In addition to his wife of 31 years, he is survived by a brother, Dick Hale.

Services will be private.

Instead of flowers, his widow suggests that donations be made to the Autry National Center of the American West.

Rest In Peace, Monte.

Many years ago I worked on a couple political campaigns. We spent countless hours making phone calls, stuffing envelopes and running back and forth to the local printer who was working hard to keep our supply of yard signs, bumper stickers, and brochures readily at hand.

We could have saved a bundle in printing costs, as well as vehicle expenses, if we could have ordered from a place online like PSPrint Online Printing. Ordering your printed materials online is much cheaper than dealing with the printer across town. Changes can be made nearly instantaneously with a few simple clicks, and during a campaign that is constantly evolving, that’s a very good thing.

The two campaigns I worked on were relatively small, but I was quite shocked at the number of yard signs and bumper stickers we needed just to keep up with the demand. I spent several nights helping to deliver the new supplies as we had time to pick them up, and it seemed like the demand would never stop. During campaigns, no matter what their size, you need professionally printed yard signs and custom bumper stickers to make sure the candidates name gets out there. PSPrint is the perfect place for all your online printing needs no matter the size of the campaign you are working on.

A French musicians guild says Oscar-winning film composer Maurice Jarre has died at the age of 84.

Jarre is best known for writing the haunting song “Lara’s Theme” from the film “Doctor Zhivago.”

SACEM head Bernard Miyet cites Jarre’s family Monday as saying the composer died in his California villa.

Jarre penned dozens of scores for some of Hollywood’s most prominent directors.

He won Oscars for his music for “Doctor Zhivago,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” and “Passage to India,” and was nominated for an additional six Academy Awards.

Rest In Peace, Maurice.

Mark Noonan’s father is in his final days with his family and Mark is asking everyone to pray for his father and his family during this difficult time.

My father has now been taken to a Hospice. Days, perhaps a couple weeks, are what remain. While his body is in very bad shape, his mind remains sharp and he’s entirely aware of what is happening.

I ask all to pray for my father and my family that we will be at peace and in all things completely trusting in God.

My family’s thoughts are with you, and we will pray that you and your family get the peace you need during this difficult time.

With the economy the way it is right now, they say there is no better time to start investing. Whether you’re looking to invest in stocks or mutual funds you can do it all with Online Trading.

I haven’t signed up for an online trading account, mainly because I haven’t had the resources I thought one needed to do just that. But it turns out all you need to begin Stock Trading online is the will to do so. Sites like First Trade have no minimum deposit, so you can start trading now matter how much you wish to invest.

My grandfather, who was very knowledgeable about everything stock market related would have loved to have had an Online Broker. If he had one he would have been at the computer 18 hours a day conducting trades and monitoring the market. If you want to make your mark and potentially make a lot of money, now is the time to get into the market and do it.

Dear Harry Reid,

As a child growing up in Boulder City, Nevada in the 1970’s, I did not like you.

As a teenager graduating from Boulder City High School in the 1980’s, I did not like you.

As a young adult of voting age living in Las Vegas in the 1990’s, I despised you.

As a husband and father, now living near Atlanta, Georgia, I still don’t like you.

You are a hypocrite, you spout falsehoods, and you misrepresent yourself.

On top of everything you are, there is something you are not. An asset to the people of Nevada. I got to thinking about it, and I cannot think of a single thing you have done for the state of Nevada that any other elected official couldn’t have done. You’ve been in public office a long time so that is saying something, isn’t it?

I can’t figure out how you’ve managed to stay in office as long as you have. When I lived in Nevada I never voted for you, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It’s time for you to go Harry, and I’m sure I am not the only native Nevadan who feels this way.

With best regards,

Michael T. Barrett

Irving R. Levine, the bow-tied NBC newsman who explained the fine points of economics to millions of viewers for nearly a quarter century, has died. He was 86.

Levine died Thursday, announced Kevin M. Ross, president of Lynn University in Boca Raton. Levine (pronounced luh-VEEN’) taught at the school after leaving NBC. Further details of his death were not immediately available.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their three children, Jeffrey, Daniel and Jennifer.

In a humorous 2001 essay in The New York Times, Levine welcomed the return of the middle initial as epitomized by then-new President George W. Bush.

He recalled that producers trying to shorten a television news story of his “finally suggested I drop the R in my sign-off, Irving R. Levine. I held my ground.”

“`No,’ I said, ‘I’d rather drop the B in NBC.’”

Rest In Peace, Irving.

Dan Seals, who was England Dan in the pop duo England Dan and John Ford Coley and later had a successful country career, has died of complications from cancer. He was 61.

Longtime manager Tony Gottlieb said Seals, diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago, died Wednesday night at his daughter’s home in Nashville.

“He was raised in a very rural part of West Texas. His father was an amateur country singer, and he used to play with his dad. They were Hank Williams, Grand Ole Opry people. He was much more of a country singer than a pop singer.”

Seals’ older brother, Jimmy, was the Seals in Seals & Crofts, who recorded the hits “Summer Breeze” and “Diamond Girl” in the 1970s.

Until Dan Seals got sick, the brothers were working as a duo, Seals & Seals. They performed some shows and were recording an album but never finished it. The songs they did complete, about eight in all, will be released.

Rest In Peace, Dan.
