ABC Radio Networks says broadcasting pioneer Paul Harvey has died at the age of 90.

Network spokesman Louis Adams says Harvey died Saturday at his winter home in Phoenix, surrounded by family. No cause of death was immediately available.

Harvey was a news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation’s most familiar voices.

Rest In Peace, Paul.

I honestly don’t know how to begin this post… It’s rare that I actually “know” anyone I post an obituary for.

I never met Lisa in person, I never talked to her on the phone, I never communicated with her one on one. But felt like I knew Lisa. I followed her life adventure each day over at Clusterfook for quite a long time. Her strong will and love for her family kept me coming back every day to find out what was happening next.

She has fought cancer three different times. A strong woman with a hell of a lot of determination. A wife to Dude. A mother to Teenie and Cam. A friend to a lot of people.

Lisa lost her battle with cancer tonight. She will be missed terribly, and my thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.

Rest In Peace, Lisa.

She is survived by Burns, her long-term partner and fourth husband, whom she married in October.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.

Rest In Peace, Wendy.

I for one do not like much of anything to do with the stimulus plan, and I applaud any effort to reduce spending by the government, be it federal or state.

Georgia’s unemployment rate is already over eight percent, and when the new figures come out this week it is expected to go even higher. That’s why the Department of Labor is anxious to take control of $220 million from the President’s Stimulus Plan.

But Governor Sonny Perdue says, not so fast. He may not accept that money earmarked for Georgia’s unemployed workers.

“If someone offered to give me fifty cents,” explained the governor, “and they said I’ll give you fifty cents if you give me a dollar. I’d have to think about it.”

Georgia’s unemployed workers will be getting 25 dollars more per week in benefits, a move Perdue called “a no-brainer.” But that money that will drain the department of labor’s reserves even faster.

Being one of those unemployed workers who would make $25 more per week if he took the money, I implore him NOT to take it. $100 more per month sounds really good right now. In fact, I could really use the money, but not at the expense of my children, and my children’s children.

It won’t make enough of a difference to make me forget what President Obama and Congress have done to the future of our nation.

It won’t make me forget the fact that in the past month the President and Congress have spent more money than at any other time in our nation’s history, and someone has to foot the bill for it.

It won’t make employers do more to get people off the unemployment rolls…

So keep it Mr. Obama. Keep every red cent of it. Consider it an investment in my children’s future.

Howard Zieff, a film and television commercial director whose works included “Private Benjamin” and “My Girl,” has died. He was 81.

Zieff died Sunday of Parkinson’s disease in Los Angeles, said his wife Ronda Gomez-Quinones.

Goldie Hawn, who received an Oscar nomination for best actress for her role in “Private Benjamin” in 1980, said Zieff “had a special talent for directing comedies, always a rare gift.”

He is survived by his wife and his sister.

Rest In Peace, Howard.

Imagine my surprise when I saw this car on the Interstate on Friday.

mayberry.jpg

After catching up with the vehicle I was quite disappointed that neither Andy nor Barney were driving. It would be kewl if everyone, whether in police, fire, or healthcare jobs, went retro for a day or so. Then again, I wouldn’t want the service to be retro though.

I guess I don’t live in Mayberry after all.

Whoa.

Investigators in the 2001 slaying of Chandra Levy have prepared an arrest warrant for a Salvadoran immigrant convicted of similar attacks in the park where the former intern disappeared, a person close to the investigation said Saturday.

The person told The Associated Press that Ingmar Guandique’s arrest is imminent and an official announcement is expected soon. The source was not authorized to discuss the case publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

I guess, in light of what’s happening, that creep Gary Condit really was just having an affair, huh?

The R&B singer and guitarist Snooks Eaglin, who counted platinum-selling rockers among his fans, died here Wednesday. He was 72.

The cause was a heart attack he suffered after falling ill and being hospitalized last week, said John Blancher, a family friend. Mr. Eaglin learned he had prostate cancer last year.

Mr. Eaglin is part of 50 years’ worth of New Orleans recordings, from early folk to R&B and jazz, Mr. Davis said. “He played a six-string, a 12-string,” he said. “He could play anything with strings on it.”

The jazz bassist Peter Badie, who played with Mr. Eaglin in the 1960s at clubs on Rampart Street, said that “a lot of cats tried to copy him, the way he attacked the strings, but they couldn’t.”

Mr. Eaglin’s survivors include his wife of more than 30 years, Dorothea Eaglin, and a daughter.

Rest In Peace, Snooks.
