All three of our kids have allergies of some kind. Whether it's pollen or household chemicals, they all have a pretty rough time throughout the year. While it's not so easy to prevent the yearly 'hay fever' cycle (which pretty much runs 10 months of the year), we have had a lot of success in reducing the different household chemicals we use here in our house.
From fragrance free detergent to all natural soaps, we have done everything we can to make sure that the things they are allergic too, or toxic to their skin, never enter our house.
Did you know that mineral oil can be toxic to the skin? Who knew? Once we got into a routine of using all natural products, including almond extracts, cinnamon, and oatmeal, most of their skin problems really seemed to clear up.
We buy goat milk soap at the farmers market because she uses all natural ingredients and it really helps with our kids' skin. It can cost more to 'go natural', but in the end you'll probably save money. We don't spend nearly as much as we did when they were having reactions every other day. If you or your kids are sensitive to chemicals, make sure you get informed and learn about natural soaps too.
