Paul Weyrich Dies

Paul M. Weyrich, 66, the conservative thinker who coined the phrase "moral majority," founded the conservative Heritage Foundation and became an intellectual leader of the U.S. religious right, died early Dec. 18, a foundation official said.

It was not immediately known where he was at his death or what the cause was, but a spokesman said he's been in declining health for some time. He injured his spine in a fall in 1996 and also suffered from diabetes. Both of his legs were amputated at the knee in 2005.
