As I have mentioned in the past, my head just cannot wrap itself around most financial matters. Oh sure, I can keep track of my money, balance my checkbook, and all of that. It’s learning about the stock market, mutual funds and bonds that throws my brainwaves into a tailspin.

When I see an ad to ‘buy future payments‘ I have no idea what that means. I can look into it, and read as much information as there is out there, but upon doing so, I still have no idea what it means to buy future payments. Future payments of what?

I did get the chance to review buy annuity information and that began to make sense. The whole idea of an annuity makes more sense to me than any of the terms I ahve already described.

One that really gets me is structured settlements. How the heck to do you buy structured settlement? The way I see it, some guy gets a structured settlement for something, where he is supposed to get a certain amount of money each year, over time. Buying that settlement gives him money up front, and then I, as the purchaser reap the reward of obtaining the settlement over time. Right? Now I am confusing myself again.

I’ll get a grasp of this someday.
