I’m Not A Show Off

While my principal job function with my day job is writing awesome code as a software engineer, one of my other responsibilities is writing the manuals and visiting customer sites to perform demos of that awesome software.

This always puts me in an awkward position because I do not do well in front of large groups of people, and when I try to explain my software in plain english, it ends up being geek speak and no one knows what the heck I am trying to say.

When I stand up there trying to judge whether or not I have succeeded in explaining the whole process, having an Audience Response System would be tremendously helpful. Seriously. If I could get immediate feedback from the audience I would know what direction to take the next time and then, hopefully, people would actually know what I wanted them to know.

A reliable audience response system would allow me to focus on the topics that need more focus to help me finish the demonstrations a bit quicker too. Then I could spend more time behind the monitor where I belong.
