Cedella Booker Dies

A spokesman for Bob Marley’s family says the mother of the Jamaican reggae legend has died.

Spokesman Jerome Hamilton said Wednesday that 81-year-old Cedella Booker died in her sleep Tuesday night at her home in Miami.

Booker was a native of Jamaica who was 18 when she married Norval Marley, a British man 32 years her senior. Their son, Robert, brought Jamaica’s reggae music to international prominence. He died in Miami of a brain tumor in 1981.

Booker married an American man and settled in Delaware after Norval Marley died in 1955. She wrote two biographies about her famous son and recorded two albums.

Booker is survived by two children. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Rest In Peace, Cedella.
