Posted by Slobokan @ 5:47 pm · 164 words · print

I added some fields for ‘civil liberties’ to the ‘2008 Presidential Candidates At A Glance‘ spreadsheet.

There are now 32 fields in the table, and you can see where your candidate stands and compare them to the other candidates on one simple page.

The fields in the table are:

Life: Abortion, Death Penalty,Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Immigration: Amnesty, Border Fence, Citizenship for those here
Jobs/Economy: Increase Jobs In America, Fair Tax, Free Trade, Increase In Minimum Wage
Iraq: Cut Funding, Troop Levels, War, Immediate Withdrawal
Civil Liberties: Closing Guantanamo, Original Patriot Act, Renewing Patriot Act, Renewing Wiretap Provision
Energy: Drilling In ANWR, Reduce foreign oil dependency, Renewable energy sources
Health Care: Universal Heath Care, Prescription Drugs
Social Security: Privatization
Global Warming: Cap or reduce emissions
Education: School Vouchers
Gun Control: Assault weapons ban, Background Checks At Gun Shows

I have also corrected a couple of entries based on information provided by readers.

I want to thank you for a VERY valuable tool. This will help me and others that are wondering who to support now that Fred left.
I’ve linked to your site from our blog.
    Thanks again, from Virginia.

It was my pleasure. It took a lot of work, but once I got it done, I knew I had to share it with everyone, because I knew there were others like me that were in a dilemma because Fred dropped out.

How does this help you now that Fred left? Sure there’s a thing or two for each remaining candidate, that you can point to and say, “I agree with him on that”… as long as you don’t mind the glaring monstrosity this chart doesn’t illuminate.
McCain wants to repeal the 1st Amendment the way the Dems want to repeal the 2nd. He will act as they do, since you must defeat the 2nd before you can get to the 1st. I honor him for his service. Beyond that Hillary would be the lesser evil next to McCain.
Rudy and Mitt, likewise, gun grabbing liars who would do no better on judges than Hill.
Paul is the only one that’s right on a lot of points. He’s also a lunatic, but there are worse things running for president in ‘08.

Slobokan, this is not meant to be a second post, I realized I didn’t say why!

I wasn’t slamming your work, but the info you got (like any of it available I mean!) is suspect. Most of these entries can probably be found to be untrue in a case or two, for every issue on every candidate. That’s how they work, you can’t pin them down because they don’t give specific answers. Even votes can’t be used with confidence, what they were voting on is often nebulous.

What I was trying to say was (in other words) not to slam your research but to complain about having no choice that is less worse than the next. Again.
