Walking The Neighborhood

Since I hurt my leg, I haven't been able to walk very much (other than the walk through the airport in Atlanta last week, which I was required to do). If I put too much stress on the leg, it seems to tire very easily. It might have something to do with the fact the wound was right on top of the shin bone and it likes to "move" when I walk.

Anyway, now that I haven't been walking as much, I haven't had to worry too much about the Rottweilers that live at the end of our street. Normally, I carry a nice big walking stick (just in case) but something tells me if they were really hungry, that stick wouldn't be enough to stop them.

I wouldn't mind waking up Christmas morning with some Mace Muzzle Canine Repellant in my stocking, that's for sure. It comes with a keychain and contains 10 one second bursts of mace that will spray up to 10 feet. I can't tell you how many times I have had to "avoid" that end of the street because those dogs are running loose. Several of my neighbors have complained about the same thing and it seems that animal control has no intention of doing anything about it, which totally sucks. That small container of canine repellant would certainly do the trick, and maybe condition the dogs to stop chasing people, eventually.

Things have been real weird around here lately with dogs running loose, cats disappearing, and teenage kids breaking into houses (not ours). It's one thing to not feel safe when you're taking your morning walk, but it's a lot different when you find out that your neighbor's house was broken into in broad daylight.

We decided last weekend to buy hidden diversion safes (no I am not going to tell you which ones), just in case, and once my leg heals, and I am fully mobile again, I will begin contemplating the whole dog chasing issue again.
