Checking Out Spock
I spent the past several minutes checking out Spock.com I heard about this cool people search engine quite a while ago, but never had time to sit back and look for people. I was shocked this morning when I found quite a few people I used to work with years ago simply by searching for law enforcement and Las Vegas. I have been looking for some of those people for many years, and to find them was really cool.
I didn’t have as much luck when searching for former classmates from the University of Hawaii though, then again, I only went there for a year, so I wasn’t expecting to find many people there anyway. Maybe with a few tweaks I can find a couple of them. Heck, I bet a few of them wouldn’t even remember me.
One of the coolest features of Spock is that you can search for people by features, and not just locations and names. For example, if you wanted you search for single, female, republicans in California, you could. Spock makes it that easy.
I really like Spock, and I love the fact that I can search for people with their names, their job titles, their locations, and most importantly, their age and other features. I wasn’t able to find some people I thought I would, which only means they probably aren’t using any of the social networking sites, yet. As people continue to join all of the different social networking sites, the Spock database will continue to grow and I’ll be able to find everyone I ever knew. How scary is that? I even found myself searching for people I went to elementary school with. Ack!
One other feature of Spock that I failed to mention was the fact that you can embed search results directly on a webpage by using their nifty widget. Here are the results from the previous search I mentioned above, only displayed in the widget:
NOTE: I disabled the widget because it seems to have issues with Internet Explorer and takes over the whole screen.
How cool is that? I love it. The next time I am searching for someone, I am definitely going to use spock.com. Now, I must step away from the computer as I have information overload, and a few people to contact.
