Looking To The Stars For Interent Access

I think I have mentioned it before but living out in the sticks really narrows the choices for high speed internet. The cable companies don’t service us way out here, and the phone company keeps telling me, when I call to complain about my crappy service, that they don’t even offer service at my address. That’s why I have been looking into a satellite internet provider.

For the record, I am typing this using my DSL connection, which works for the most part, but the speeds are so variable, that I sometimes think using dial-up would at least give me a consistent speed that I know I can rely on. HughesNet offers always-on, high speed, satellite internet service which is a bit more expensive than my dsl, but looks like it would be far more reliable, which makes them more than competitive in my book.

Since I cannot get the download or upload speeds from any cable company in the area, and since my dsl upload speed is close to 200kbps, it only makes sense to consider satellite internet as an option since their download speeds are rated the same as the current service I am receiving, and truthfully, their service couldn’t be any less reliable than my current DSL connection, so there wouldn’t be anything to lose if I decided to give them a try.
