Where Do They Find These People?

Like many places around the country, we are in the midst of a severe drought. It’s so bad, we’re not allowed to water outside anymore.

Earlier this week, news broke that Stone Mountain was using 38 million gallons of water per minute to make snow for an attraction that was opening in November. Of course, people were “drought-raged” and the snow creation was halted.

Today, we learned that the city of Athens may need to start rationing water soon. Big news indeed.

Water rationing may be a reality in the city of Athens before the end of next month, thanks to the drought. The city’s water supply is running so low, officials may have to force homeowners and businesses to conserve.

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Now who do they get to comment on the situation? A city official? A water company spokesman? Nope. Neither. The first was a car-wash operator.

“That would be very difficult,” said Chris King of the University Car Wash. “Just the amount of water it takes to run each car through. To cut back to a certain level, that’s pretty much shutting us down.”

What are they doing operating a car wash during a severe drought anyway? Isn’t that a senseless waste of resources? Oh, and who was the second commenter?

Rochelle Douglas said she would have to cut back on her two-to-three baths a day.

“Bubble baths, showers, got to have my bubbles,” Douglas said. “So that would hurt me.”

Two to three baths per day? WTF is that about? Couldn’t they find any normal people to interview for the article? Geeeez. Next thing you know we’ll find out she’s on her way to her Orlando vacation home rental because she can’t stand the fact she can’t take 3 baths a day anymore.

It was actually 38 gallons per minute (not that it was still not a stupid move). You can see my articles on the drought in Athens at http://www.nowpublic.com/tcgathens

by the way, this form does not work in Firefox, and displays horribly in IE6:-(
