Remember that warning I posted about raw oysters about a month ago?
A Fulton County woman died in August after eating raw oysters at an Atlanta restaurant, health officials said Monday.
They are warning against eating raw shellfish because of the possibility it could be contaminated with Vibrio vulnificus, the bacteria linked to the woman's death.
The bacteria can cause death or serious illness in people with a variety of medical conditions, including diabetes and liver disease. It is common in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in summer months, which means oysters and other shellfish from that region may contain the bacteria, too.
The woman's death and a possible link to oysters has been under investigation for several weeks, according to April Majors, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. The department has not identified the restaurant.
They should, at the very least, let people know which restaurant this happened at, don't you think?
