Rescue Effort Called Off

Sad news today from Huntington, Utah…

The search for six men trapped in Utah’s Crandall Canyon mine since Aug. 6 has been officially called off.

U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration officials said the search for the missing men was suspended indefinitely Friday, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Saturday.

“They are done. It’s finished,” said Colin King, a Salt Lake City-based attorney representing family members of the missing miners. “It’s a hard and bitter pill for our families, and there were quite a few tears shed.”

MSHA spokesman Rich Kulczewski said there were no plans to revisit the tunnel where three rescuers were killed and six injured in a second cave-in Aug. 16.

Hopefully someday, the MSHA and the mine owners will find a way to bring the bodies of those trapped in the mine home to their families.

How sad.
