When Opportunity Knocked

Our nephew is due to ship out for Iraq in just over a week. Like many young men and women who joined the military when he did, he had no idea he would be shipping out to a war thousands of miles away from home, but he is very proud to be serving his country, and we are very proud of him for doing so.
The training he receives from the US Military will help him perform his job in Iraq, but more importantly, it will help him prepare for jobs in the future, whether he chooses a different career path or he chooses to make the military his career.
Since enlisting, the mlitary has provided extensive training that has taught him everything he needs to know about repairing and maintaining aircraft. That knowledge, along with his sense of duty, will be greatly beneficial if, later on, he chooses to find a job in the private sector.
The army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard provide a unique experience for those who join. Where else can you get paid for learning to use the newest equipment and latest technology? I have met numerous people who found much more value in their military training than any school they attended afterward.

My nephew is leaving as well. He will be going to either Iraq or Aphganistan (sp?). He is supposed to leave this month or next. Unfortunately none of us will know until at least a week before he has to report due to classified stuff. He'll be given a few days to say goodbye to family, of course. Anyway, he's infantry and this is what he trained to do, but it doesn't make it any easier for him or us. I guess all we can do is pray for our boys – your nephew, my nephew, and the rest of the troops over there, male and female – for their safety and protection, and in the extremely hard times, the peace of God holding them in His hands…. May God bless your nephew and your family as you all prepare for his departure.
