Sticking My Head Out The Window

I love to take road trips, in fact, if i had it my way, we would take a road trip one weekend out of every month. I love to be on the open road and see what's over that next hill or around the next bend in the road. One thing I don't like is traveling with pets, well, I never did before anyway. I have never had good luck with that idea, at all. I used to have cats, and it was all I could do to take them to the vet, let alone on a road trip. Cats are not good traveling companions. Dogs on the other hand, love to travel and stick their heads out the window. The problem I have always had, is that my dogs always got carsick, or worse, when I took them somewhere with me.

One time, we drove up to Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas. I think it was my sister that went with me, she'll verify that fact when she reads this… Anyway… We took our mom's dog, Magnum with us. He was a Lhasa/Poodle mix of some kind. We were having a great time and everything was cool until we stopped to see the wild burro's and one approached the window of my truck. Needless to say, Magnum "released" his bowels because he was so scared of the donkey. We were laughing our butts off, but that was not a pleasant day.

The only time I traveled a great distance with a pet though, was with Buffy, my wife's Lhasa. We drove from Georgia all the way to California, and we had the truck packed so tight at the time that Buffy got to sit in the "queen's chair", which was basically a perch up above and behind our seats. She loved it, and she didn't get car sick or anything. Five months later when we moved back to Georgia, movers took most of our stuff, so Buffy got to lay down in the backseat for the trip. That poor dog was carsick during the whole trip. I wish we could have flown home, then my wife could have carried her in a dog bag. No, not a "doggy bag". Geez. A dog bag, you know, those stylish things that look like purses but actually provide an easy way to bring your pet with you when you travel.

BarkSlope.com has a great selection of doggie accessories. Since my sister is moving cross country pretty soon, maybe I should get her a doggie tote so her dog Josie (a yorkie) can travel in style? I think her other dog Chloe, the chubby Chihuahua, would have a hard time fitting in one though. Just kidding Chloe, you aren't that fat yet. Okay, so maybe you are.

actually, I have a really nice one that was only used twice. Mattie can't stand the things. If she wants it, she can have it. :) tell her to shoot me an email (to my gmail addy, which you may have to give her). :) It is a nice leather one and I can take a picture of it too… actually, I have a picture… I'll email it to you to send to her. :)

OK, so I'm lame. I haven't read your blog in awhile. Thought I'd catch up.

I so remember that. Poor Magnum. I think we almost peed ourselves laughing so hard.
