Mackerel Recalled Due To Clostridium Botulinum

This is the third recall involving botulism that has surfaced in the past 30 days or so.
Everlasting Distributors, Inc. of Bayonne, NJ, is recalling its Blue Ocean Smoked Mackerel 8 oz. packaged frozen products because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distention and constipation may also be common symptoms. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
Blue Ocean Smoked Mackerel was distributed in New York and New Jersey areas and it reached consumers through retail stores.
What gives? Three recalls of three completely different products, in three different areas of the country. Coincidence or is something else transpiring here?
