Betunia, The Giraffe, Dies
Posted by Slobokan @ 19:25 · 95 words · print
Betunia, a female giraffe who has been housed at Zoo Atlanta for nearly two decades, has died. She was 23.
Betunia was known for her gentle disposition and often participated in public feedings, becoming famous for having an insatiable appetite. Betunia lived at the zoo for 18 years.
Though an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, zoo officials said they believe is likely age-related. Life expectancy for a giraffe in captivity is 25-28 years. Giraffe in the wild typically live between 15-20 years.
Rest In Peace, Betunia. Say hi to Willy B for us.
