China Wants A Silent Recall Process
Groundless smear attacks? Is the truth stinging just a little too much?
China warned the United States on Thursday against “groundless smear attacks” against Chinese products and said it was working responsibly to address concerns over a spate of recent food safety scares.
“The Chinese Government has not turned a blind eye or tried to cover up. We have taken this matter very seriously, acted responsibly and immediately adopted forceful measures,” said a statement by China’s embassy in Washington.
“Blowing up, complicating or politicizing a problem are irresponsible actions and do not help in its solution,” the Chinese mission said in a rare policy pronouncement.
While they’re adopting forceful measures, maybe they could remove lead from the paints they use on childrens toys. Or perhaps they could make sure that small parts are fastened more securely so they don’t fall off and choke our children.
Is it too much to ask that they start some sort of inspection process to make sure crap like that doesn’t happen again? Oh sure, I am just as concerned about the foods and other substandard items coming from China as the next guy, but the heck if I’m going to remain politically correct and refrain from blowing up when they do something so completely stupid in the future.
The official statement from China said that problematic U.S. imports from China, including the poisoned pet food, toy trains with lead paint, and toothpaste made with antifreeze were “isolated cases” and “hardly avoidable” due to the rapidly growing bilateral trade between our countries.
Okay, fine, so those three cases are “isolated”, what about the other 69 children’s product recalls that involve products made in China. Are those “isolated cases” as well? Were they “hardly avoidable” too?
Are we simply blowing things up over here, or is China trying to keep everything on the hush hush? It’s far easier to poison, injure, and kill people if they don’t know it’s going to happen.
