Linda Pace, an heir to the Pace Food fortune who founded a well-regarded contemporary art program, died of breast cancer at age 62.
She was treated at Salem Oncology Center in Houston until returning to San Antonio under hospice care last week. She died Monday, said Matthew Drutt, executive director of her artist residency program Artpace.
"Her legacy to San Antonio is that she brought the international visual arts community to the city and brought the vitality of the San Antonio's visual arts community to the world," Drutt said Tuesday.

Pace's father created the original Pace Picante Sauce in 1947. She and her husband acquired the company in 1982 for $14 million. When the couple divorced in 1991, Pace sold her stake to her ex-husband, and he later sold it to Campbell Soup Co. for $1.12 billion.
A memorial service for Pace will be held Saturday in Chrispark, a one-acre park of meandering paths and colorful landscaping she created as a tribute to her late son, Chris Goldsbury.
She is survived by two daughters, Ava Marie Pace and Margaret Marie Goldsbury.
