Today is the day people. Amnesty Bill II will be introduced on the Senate floor sometime today. Whether or not you have already contacted the senators from your state, you need to call them right now.
YOU MUST ACT NOW
Kevin Ecker has a step by step guide on what will transpire.
John Hawkins reminds us, a vote for cloture is a vote for amnesty. So, it’s now or never, people.
Senator Sessions is vowing to fight while other senators are willing to commit political suicide in the name of amnesty.
Noam Askew has the numbers and more information on whats going to be happening over the next few days.
Hot Air is following the latest developments, as usual.
Several senators sent a letter to Scary Harry asking for a “free, open, and transparent amendment process“. What did he say?
Dear Senators Cornyn, Vitter, Dole, Sessions and DeMint:
Thank you for writing to me earlier today about my efforts to bring the comprehensive immigration reform bill back to the Senate floor.
…
The so-called “clay pigeon” procedure is unusual, and I would not have considered employing it in this instance without the full support of Senator McConnell. It seems to me appropriate for the two leaders to work together to overcome the tactics of a small number of Senators in order to allow the full Senate to debate an important national issue like immigration. The White House made clear that it also favors such a procedure, since the immigration bill is one of President Bush’s top priorities.
Yup, that’s right. He confirmed he is using the “clay pigeon” procedure. If that doesn’t tell you what kind of person Harry Reid is, then you have more issues than the entire U.S. Senate.
Of course, this means that all of those senators who are sitting on the fence and cannot decide if they want to vote for cloture or not, will have no idea if their amendment(s) will be considered after the cloture vote. If the purpose behind the amendments is important to any of those senators who are still undecided, they will be voting no tomorrow. Wouldn’t it be better to let the bill die right away, than to vote for cloture, find out that the Amnesty Bill still stinks, and watch helplessly as the worst immigration bill in our nation’s history gets passed by a simple majority?
Michelle Malkin repeats herself. Clear the damn backlogs.
The Politico has an excellent immigration map up. You can click your state and read what your senators have to say about immigration reform.
The White House released yet another “Fact Sheet” today. This time, they are telling us that only enforcing our ineffective current law leaves the nation vulnerable. How in the hell would they know? They haven’t been enforcing the current laws. The Bush Administration thinks we are stupid and misinformed. Again.
Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) knows it as well, too bad the Bush Administration doesn’t listen to GOP senators anymore.
We do not need the Senate immigration bill to secure the border.
Congress has already passed laws authorizing border security, but the Homeland Security Department has failed to fully implement them. The administration already has the authority to build hundreds of miles of border fencing, hire and train 6,000 border patrol agents (bringing the total number of agents to 18,000), end catch and release and create a national employment verification database. Essentially, all of the security benchmarks in the current Senate bill are already law.
Unfortunately, proponents of this bill would have us believe that none of these security measures can be implemented unless we pass a bill that grants amnesty to 12 million to 20 million illegal immigrants. In short, security is being held hostage in return for amnesty.
DeMint also has the immigration quote of the day.
GOP Senators are trying to bait us with a significant change that would require the head of households to return to their home countries in order to apply for legal status. Do they really think these people who have been “hiding in the shadows” are going to come out of those shadows and go home, for the chance to come back “legally”? HA. Nice try, but I ain’t buying it.
Dick “Turbin” Durbin (D-IL), says some members of the Senate may find amendments to the Amnesty Bill offensive. When it comes to ‘offensive’ who else knows better than Durbin?
When all is said and done, I sure hope John Hawkins doesn’t need to activate The Payback Project.
Don’t forget. Today is the day! The Senate will attempt to revive Amnesty Bill II sometime today. This bill was originally negotiated behind closed doors, never went through committee, and died on the Senate floor. The revised version was also negotiated behind closed doors, is skipping committee, and now, those Senators we elected to serve us, will not even know which amendments will be opened for debate until after the cloture vote. Does this sound right? Is this the way our government is supposed to work? Call your senators today. Right now. Don’t wait a moment longer. Visit NumbersUSA and send a fax, immediately.
Unless your senators hear from you, they won’t know how you feel about the Amnesty Bill. Please, take a moment right now and contact your senators or send them a fax. Urge them to oppose this measure and support enforcing our current immigration laws. When you’re done calling them, call the National Republican Senatorial Committee at (202) 675-6000 and let them know you won’t support the reelection of any senator who votes for this bill. Then call the Republican National Committee at (202) 863-8500 (option 1) and tell them the same thing. You should also contact the White House and tell the President that you are not stupid, you are not misinformed and you do, in fact, know what’s right for America.

[...] It’s not too late: follow the Amnesty roundup and, if you haven’t already done so, call your [...]

In poker when you go ALL IN like this president has and this Senate has on the immigration bill, one should consider that someone else may have a better hand. I just hope that one of these senators decides to “call” these egocentric morons which includes this president and take them out for the rest of 2007 and 2008. God help us all.
