Genarlow Wilson To Be Released

A judge has ruled that Genarlow Wilson should be released from a 10-year prison sentence for having oral sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17.
Wilson petitioned the judge last week for an early release. He was convicted of aggravated child molestation for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17.
Wilson was sentenced to ten years in prison. He has some major league supporters including former President Jimmy Carter, who wrote the judge last month saying the no parole sentence is disproportionate to the crime.
Last year, Georgia lawmakers changed the law so that if Wilson were to be charged now, it would be a misdemeanor.

UDPATE: Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker has appealed the judge's ruling, so Genarlow Wilson will remain in jail pending the appeal.
