Get Ready To Pay More At The Pump… Again…

Posted by Slobokan @ 00:54 · 162 words · print

Another price jump at the gas pump is days away — this time, the increase will come from the state, not the oil companies. State officials said a rarely-used law requires them to raise the gasoline sales tax, by just over two cents a gallon, starting June 1.

The increase is triggered automatically by a state law passed four years ago. That particular trigger has kicked in twice before — it pushed the tax up once, and actually lowered it last December.

It's a rarely used law that just happens to have been used twice in the past four years, well, three if you count what's going to happen in 6 more days…

Gov. Perdue could suspend the gas tax, like he did after the Hurricane Katrina pricegasm in 2005. But of course, there was no natural disaster, so adding millions to the state coffers is the only thing on his little itty bitty mind.

Thanks.
