John Edwards, Poster Boy For Bumper Stickers
Posted by Slobokan @ 11:21 · 104 words · print
In 2001, John Edwards said that Democrats would be "united with the President throughout this war on terrorism".
Now, in 2007, he says,
"The war on terror is a slogan designed only for politics, not a strategy to make America safe. It's a bumper sticker, not a plan," Edwards said. "It has damaged our alliances and weakened our standing in the world."
Leave it to the personal injury attorney to make reference to bumper stickers. I guess it's only appropriate, when you've made your career out of chasing ambulances.
Just remember… Liberals are open minded, unless you disagree with them. ;)

Sorry you got confused. Mr. Edwards was employing an metaphor to demonstate how Bush uses simplistic "bumper sticker" language to explain the worse stratigic mistake in the history of the US. Sounds like you might be the type who buys that kind of propaganda. I'm a trial lawyer and represent common folks who have been injured against multi-billion dollar insurance companies. I hope you are fortunate enough not be the victim of someone's negligence or an unreasonably dangerous product because you will have to suffer the indignaties of dealing with an amoral corporate giant or hire a lawyer to protect your rights. Oh, I wasn't confused. I was just pointing out yet another gaff in Mr. Edwards' public speaking abilities.
In no way did I mean to demean all personal injury attornies. In fact, I was just talking about those who keep ranting about "two Americas" and then choose to make $55,000 for a speech about poverty, and then turn around and say there should be some sort of mandatory service for everyone, "not just the poor kids who get sent to war".
You may think I am confused, but I am not. In fact, at one point long ago, I even thought of supporting Edwards in his first bid for the presidency.
Thanks for the kind words. If I am ever in Texas, and I fall prey to someone's negligence, or the deeds of a corporate giant, I am surely going to look you up! :)

As a frequent critic of the 'oh-so-glib' Mr Edwards, I did a search on Google through the NYT home page, and simply entered,"John Edwards gaff", and lo and behold, Slobo's blog was the second item in the results. I had heard about the "bumper sticker" remark from my girlfriend, a long-time Edwards hater, and Juliani Republican.
Ready to laugh at his latest screw-up, I now have to agree with what he said, (at least the little blurb quoted above.).
This was only made such a big deal of due to the conservative media's state of denial about how bad a President Bush has been. In fact, even moderate Republicans are still unable to accept the level of damage done by Bush/Cheney to our Foreign Policy, our traditional alliances, and any efforts we have made to overcome the growing influence of fundamentalist Islam.
I don't see much help on the Election front either ! Neither party has a candidate with the balls, or the political skill, to bring about the new mind-set needed by the American People in our efforts to win the war on terror, resume our place as the envy and inspiration of the World, nor to restore our economic dominance.
