Compromising With Our Future

Legalizing the people who are already here is just plain stupid. Why in the hell would anyone choose to reward criminals?

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators reached agreement on Thursday on an immigration reform bill that would legalize millions of illegal immigrants and establish a merit-based system for future migrants, lawmakers said.

The agreement sets the stage for what is expected to be a passionate Senate debate over immigration and lead the way for what would be one of the most significant accomplishments of
President George W. Bush's final term.

The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" and – after paying fees and a $5,000 fine and returning to their home countries – ultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years.

Whether they change the law or not, these people were in the United States choosing to break the law. What makes them think, once this is passed and these illegal immigrants have come forward for their "Z visa", that any of them will pay fees or a $5,000 fine? Let alone return to their home country?

If this measure passes, it will definitely be one of President Bush's most significant accomplishments. He will forever be known as "El presidente estupido sin huevos".
