Disclaimer: As an Active Christian Media reviewer, I received a complimentary copy of this movie from the distributor, and have received no further compensation for writing this review. The movie is being distributed by Pure Flix Entertainment. Hidden Secrets will hit theaters on April 30th, 2007, and you can click here to view the trailer. This will be my final review for ACM.
What if your deepest secrets were suddenly exposed? Nine friends discover just how explosive it can be when their past becomes their present.
Hidden Secrets is a powerful movie with an important message. I think we sometimes forget what forgiveness is all about until it is too late, and Hidden Secrets puts that into perspective while also showing us how much one person can make a difference in so many lives.
I felt the movie was uplifting, but I thought it lacked in character development and the ending came to fruition far too suddenly. Some characters seemed shallow because of the lack of character development, and the ending happened so fast that it just was not believable, but neither of these flaws interfered with the overall message of the movie. Many scenes seemed to start out stereotypical and the acting seemed forced, but each one evolved quickly and became riveting. One scene, however, did leave me scratching my head. When the skeptic of the group quoted scripture to perfection, we were never told exactly how he knew it so well, which would have been nice to know.
Parts of the movie were over acted, but I feel the message of the film was actually stronger during those parts and the music from Rachael Lampa and Building 429 was absolutely fabulous.
There were several parts of the movie I could relate to, and I found myself recalling events in my own life that were being reflected on the screen. Hidden Secrets easily earns four out of five stars. Because it raises several controversial topics, I would not recommend the movie for the little ones, but I think most people would benefit from seeing it.
