Test Pattern #22: Al Gore And Energy
Posted by Slobokan @ 20:37 · 189 words · print
In the latest Test Pattern I focus on Al Gore's energy use and compare it to that used by regular ordinary folk.
Last week, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release about Al Gore and his use of energy resources at his mansion in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville.
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research claims Al Gore is a hypocrite because he uses more electricity in one month than an average household in America consumes in one year.
In this podcast I am not going to delve into the whole energy hypocrite argument. Why concentrate on the hypocrisy when you can concentrate on the massive amount of energy being consumed at that mansion. When I looked at the numbers and applied them to common everyday items we use, my mind literally warped.
You can hear what was on my mind at the time in the latest episode of Test Pattern. You can subscribe at ISPN Media, or you can click the ODEO player link below.

Hey, Slobo. Long time no dispute!
A simple question. Before publishing this, and before I provide you with a bit of information that may change the tone of the discussion…did you make any effort to dig into the "non partisan" source of your story, the Tennessee Centre for Policy Research?

Howdy B!
Yes, I know all about the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.
While some, including myself, may question their motives, the purpose of my post was to focus on the amount of energy used by Mr. Gore, not the political reasons why said energy usage was revealed.
The amount of electricity reported by the Tennessee Center was directly from the Nashville Electric Service. I do, however, question how the Center received access to Mr. Gore's electric bill.
The amount of energy used is not in dispute, though, and that amount was the focus of this post.
The partisan manner of the Tennessee Center does not matter when it comes down to the amount of energy used each month at Mr. Gore's home. Facts are non-partisan.
Truth be told, I would have done the same post (and podcast) whether Mr. Gore was a Democrat or a Republican.
Mr. Gore called on the American people to conserve energy. He said we should all reduce electricity consumption at home. Whether some or all of his energy sources are green, or he purchases "carbon offsets", I simply want people to understand how much energy he is using.
