Daniel McDonald Dies

Daniel McDonald, a Tony-nominated actor who appeared on Broadway in such musicals as "Steel Pier" and "High Society," has died of brain cancer at 46.

McDonald died Feb. 15 at home, Jason Brantley, a spokesman for McDonald's family, said Tuesday.

The actor made his Broadway debut in 1997 in "Steel Pier," a John Kander and Fred Ebb musical set in Atlantic City. He received a Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of pilot Bill Kelly in the show, which also starred
Karen Ziemba and
Gregory Harrison.

The following year, McDonald starred in the stage version of Cole Porter's "High Society." He also appeared in the national tour of "Contact" in 2002 and in 2004 as a replacement in long-running New York company of "Mamma Mia!"

Survivors include his wife, Mujah Maraini-Melehi, and two children, Fosco and Ondina.
