A nationwide chicken recall affects Georgians after officials said Georgia Department of Agriculture scientists found a possibly fatal contaminant in a store sample over the weekend.
The nationwide recall affects all six-ounce packages of grilled, fully cooked and ready to eat Oscar Mayer and Louis Rich chicken breast strips with rib meat. The affected meat packages contain the establishment number P-19676 inside the USDA mark of inspection on the front of the package. On the back of each package is a USE BY date of 19 Apr 2007.
So far officials say no illnesses have been reported.
The contaminant, Listeria monocytogenes, can cause listeriosis, an uncommon, yet potentially fatal disease that can cause headaches, paralysis, fever and lack of controlled movement. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
