Yesterday, we decided to head south in search of good antique stores. We always have a blast "antiquing" in new places. We decided to start our search in Newnan, Georgia, and a quick search of Google Maps on the Blackberry 8700g showed 6 stores to choose from.

The first one no longer existed and even with help from Google Maps, we couldn't find the second one. The third one was nice, but way, and I mean way, over priced. Since we were downtown we thought we would wander their "main streets" and see what else they had to offer.

We played in the Sportsdome and the Costume Shop, then we hit the bookstore. They had autographed copies of Zell Miller's, "A Deficit Of Decency", although I failed to pick it up and didn't realize I hadn't purchased it until we were well on our way home.

We decided to eat lunch at Quizno's which was a bad mistake. The food was "tolerable", but the management suffered from brain envy. I don't know why, but most of the stores in downtown Newnan close at 3pm on Saturdays. We were eating lunch at 2:50 when the manager took the keys over to the door, locked it, and walked away. Everyone (approximately 15 people, not counting employees) was now locked inside the building. I told Gidget I thought it was illegal to lock the doors during business hours. She immediately confronted him, asking him why he locked the doors. He responded with some drivel about how he had the keys and everything was be alright.

I stood up to dump some stuff into the trash bin, and found myself standing eye to eye with the schmuck. First of all, I didn't appreciate the way he dismissed my wife. I thought I would take the opportunity to repeat our concern about the locking of the door, and he told me it didn't matter because it was "no longer business hours". I looked at my watch which showed 2:50, and the clock tower across the street, and told him he must not know how to tell time, because it was still well before 3pm.

Either it was my lucky day, or I had an authoritative sound to my voice, because he went and retrieved the keys, unlocked the door, and returned to the cash register before I had time to sit back down at our table.

The rest of our day was wonderful, and we plan to return to Newnan more often.

I am still curious though, if it is indeed a law. I cannot find anything on the internet, but then again, I couldn't find an antique store that was clearly marked on my Google Map either.

Anyone have any idea if this is indeed the law?

Honestly, I don't know if it's a law either. But I will say that every fast food/restraunt that I have ever worked for or even dined in has locked doors at closing time. As people left the door was unlocked for them (including us) and locked again after we were outside.

I'm glad you all had a good day. It sounds like fun.
