So tonight, our youngest wanted to play some games on the computer. He grabbed the "Clifford's Thinking Adventures" cd out of their drawer and popped it into the cd-rom.

They have had this "game" for about 3 years or so, and played it all the time on their older computers. You can play the game directly from the cd, but I can't remember tonight if they ever "installed" the game or not. Imagine my surprise when the following popped up on the screen…

According to AVG, the official anti-virus software of Slobokan's Site O' Schtuff,
Win32/CIH
This virus has its origin probably in Taiwan, where it was designed as a utility and was sent into local internet conferrence. Currently three variants of this virus are known, at least two of them are highly distributed.
Virus is memory resident, captures file system services and infects files upon their launching. The virus is able to part itself and place part of its code into empty parts of windows application files, so the original file size is not always changed.
Every 26th day in month (or 26th of April for one of its variants) the virus tries to overwrite Flash BIOS content. If writing into Flash BIOS is enabled (which usually is), computer will not boot upon next restart. Also, virus tries to overwrite data on your hard disk using random texts.
This virus cannot be launched under Windows NT operating systems.
I did a quick search on Google, but did not find anything. I am going to look some more tomorrow. This really pisses me off.
Needless to say, I am quite disappointed in Scholastic.
