Jimmy Carter: Presidential Propagandist

Jimmy Carter sat down for an interview with Al-Jazeera on Sunday.
Apparently, he thinks that Palestinian missiles being lobbed into Israel does not constitute terrorism.
I don’t consider… I wasn’t equating the Palestinian missiles with terrorism.
Then, to top it all off, he says the United States is punishing the Palestinian people.
Jimmy Carter: Last January, after the elections were over and Hamas won, I went to London to meet the International Quartet. I urged them not to impose any kind of economic sanctions against the Palestinian people, but they decided to do so. When alternatives were proposed by the Arab countries and by the United Nations, the U.S. rejected the alternatives, and [refused] to transfer money to the Palestinians.
Interviewer: Why, in your opinion?
Jimmy Carter: I think the reason is that the U.S. wants to topple Hamas and [believes] that if it punishes the Palestinian people severely, the Palestinians will have to change their minds. I don’t know how true this is, but it’s not legal, proper, or morally right to deprive an entire people of the basic necessities of life, because they participated in a democratic process and voted freely.
Once again, Former President Carter is telling lies and spreading misinformation throughout the world. The Palestinian people are hardly being "deprived of the basic necessities of life".
According to the State Department and the Congressional Research Service, the United States distributed more than $1,244,150,000 in aid to the Palestinians from 1975 through 2004. Since 1993, U.S. economic aid to the Palestinians has averaged roughly $85 million per year.
The United States began providing assistance for the Palestinians in 1950 with
contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the
international body created to provide food, shelter, medical attention, and education for
the Palestinian refugees from the 1948-1949 Arab-Israeli war.
The United States will redirect about $100 million in increased funding toward basic humanitarian needs, such as health, food and education. Overall humanitarian assistance will rise by 57 percent to $287 million over several years, the State Department said.
Mr. Carter's attempts to re-write history constantly amaze me. Especially with so many readily available facts to prove him wrong.
You can watch his comments at MEMRI TV. (I would recommend removing all heavy objects from the area before you watch it).
