Gasper, The Whale, Dies

Posted by Slobokan @ 16:27 · 103 words · print

Gasper, the beloved beluga whale who became a star of the Georgia Aquarium, was euthanized this morning after months of declining health.

The ghost-white whale, who had fought a deadly bone disease for months, had stopped eating on his own several weeks ago and aquarium officials said at the time his chances of survival were slim.

Gasper, who was 16 to 18 years old, was in poor health with numerous skin lesions when the new owners of the amusement park agreed to move the whales to Atlanta and an improved habitat — Nico and Gasper's tank in Mexico was located beneath a roller coaster.

Bye Gasper.
