Its August 2020 and terrorism is commonplace in America. God is being removed from virtually everthing and houses of worship are almost non existent.

Walter Withers is a 22 year old sports columnist and a product of this post modern generation. He has been raised with out God in his life and taught that Christians are weak do gooders who live in a fantasy world ruled by an invisible God.

When his plane is detoured from Minneapolis to Sioux Falls airport due to a terrorist threat, Walter finds himself meeting up with 72 year old Cody Brill. A retired pasor and martial arts master, Cody takes the arrogant, self absorbed Walter on a journey back in time that changes his life forever.

When I read the back cover of this book, I knew it was going to be inspiring, to say the least. The author, Rex Forrest Johnson, has written a genuine, heartfelt, masterpiece. The character development in this book was key to making the plot work, and Mr. Johnson did a wonderful job of slowly developing the characters along with the story, and that kept me interested page after page.

I am not a church leader nor am I a student of the gospel, but I have a clear, and probably different, understanding of Christian beliefs and the Bible. Mr. Johnson ignored the normal school of thought in many parts of the book, and I think this departure will appeal to a very large audience. By taking a less formal approach to the Trinity, and referring to “Buddy Jesus”, Mr. Johnson will get the message across to many non-believers because they wont feel as though they are being preached to.

I found the book to be a refreshing change from the norm. In a world where people are becoming more and more the same, telling a “different” story is key. From the moment Walter walked into the airport to the end with his notebook conclusion, I felt as though I knew him. I felt as thought I was him. That hasn’t happened in a very long time.

I highly recommend this five-star book!
