Blinded By Their Rage
Just as I was beginning to believe that every conservative blogger in the blogosphere had lost their moral compass, along comes Michelle Malkin leading the charge to prove that some people do still have a sense of decency.
Here are some excerpts from Michelle’s site.
I refused to link to the blogger then and even though the Drudge Report has plastered screaming headlines about the blogger’s scoop, I refuse to link to it now. There was absolutely no good reason to expose the former congressional page’s name and identity. Seizing on ABC News’ redaction failure and reporting errors (more on that in a moment) to play gotcha in a feeble attempt to avenge Foley is not a sufficient reason to obliterate the young man’s privacy. The young man was the prey, not the predator.
…
That said, some on my side of the political aisle are so bent on shooting the messenger that they have tossed their scruples and good judgement to the wind.
…
This young man’s name is now one of Technorati’s top search terms thanks to the conservative outing mob. Are you proud of sinking to the level of the liberal witch hunters? Shall we all shrug our shoulders now and accept the inevitability of turning into our own worst enemies?
Finally! Another clear-headed voice in this increasing storm of insanity. It’s great to see someone of Michelle’s caliber standing up and telling it like it is.
I am shocked and appalled at the conduct of many people on the right side of the blogosphere this week, and it’s a shame that they have chosen to discard the very values that make them who they claim to be.
For the most part, right-wing bloggers are hell-bent on “proving” someone else is involved with this scandal rather than focusing on the scandal itself. They are so eager to make their case and prove that it isn’t entirely Foley’s fault that they are revealing the names of Foley’s victims for all the world to see. They have sunk to a new low, a low even I thought was impossible for them to reach.
In their blind rage, they cannot even see what they are doing, or who they are hurting. Mark Foley is a pervert. Mark Foley brought this on himself. Not some Democratic operative, not George Soros, but Mark Foley. You remember him don’t you? The congressman who used his position of power and turned his attention to young male pages.
You see. The distraction has become so great that people aren’t even mentioning his name anymore. They are focusing on the boys, because what happened MUST be their fault. They participated in the chats. They chose to keep the instant message logs. They chose to release the information. So it must be their fault.
I turned on Hannity & Colmes tonight on FOX News. Of course, they were discussing the Foley incident. Well, sort of. I was aghast when Alan Colmes actually said to Ann Coulter,
“You’re diverting attention away from the real issue here, which is the lack of leadership.”
The issue is the lack of leadership? I thought the issue was a sexual predator serving as a member of congress?
But more shocking to me, was watching Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter attempting to minimize the events which are known to have occurred and trying to compare this incident with that of a Democratic sex scandal from the past.
I guess because some Democrat got away with something years ago, it makes it “okay” for a Republican to act like this today. Sorry people, but it doesn’t work that way.
So, where is the condemnation of Mark Foley? He’s the pervert here. Why isn’t anyone dragging his name through the mud? He’s the one who preyed on young people.
Apparently, it was no secret on Capitol Hill either. How can the party which claims to be “morally superior” even try to spin this? It’s obvious people were aware of his behavior. Everyone involved thus far has said they were aware of “something”.
If a pervert stands outside an elementary school and watches all the little girls as they leave, do we wait until he approaches one of them? Hell no. If someone is suspicious they take action. Well, unless that someone is a member of Congress.
Tonight, I am sickened by those who attempt to defend Mark Foley by seeking out his victims for further exploitation. Those people couldn’t be more hypocritical if they tried.
Kevin Aylward, from Wizbang, says it best tonight…
All that said, there is absolutely no value in Kerr’s publication of the young mans identity. The young man clearly was under 18-years-old when at least one of the IM conversation took place, “i’m not 18 till feb 23″ and Foley’s trolling for young teen boys was hardly a Hill secret. The publication of the young man’s identity - he’s a Republican campaign worker - is actually a rather sorry moment in the history of the blogosphere…
But it’s worse than that, because those who published the young man’s name don’t even realize what they’ve become.
