Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold called on President Bush to refrain from using the phrase “Islamic fascists,” saying it was offensive to Muslims and has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States.

“We must avoid using misleading and offensive terms that link Islam with those who subvert this great religion or who distort its teachings to justify terrorist activities,” Feingold said Tuesday in a speech to the Arab American Institute on Capitol Hill.

The term “Islamic fascist” has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States? Sure it doesn’t.

We have yet to be attacked by any global terrorists who are Christian, Jewish, Agnostic, Pagan, or even Atheist. That’s just the cold hard truth, and Mr. Fiengold is trying to distort it.

Every global terrorist who has attacked, or attempted an attack, or planned an attack has been Muslim. Whether or not we think they “distorted their teachings to justify terrorism” they are still Muslim. They may or may not adhere to specific parts of their holy texts, but that does not mean they are not Muslim.

All of the religions of the world have their “distortions”.

Catholics, Protestants, Episcopalians, Baptists, Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and even Jehovah’s Witnesses consider themselves Christian. While many do not agree with the teachings of some these religions, and consider some of them cults, they are still considered “Christian”.

You would think, with all those different groups of Christians, at least one of them would be “distorting their teachings to justify terrorism”. But that isn’t the case.

In Judaism, you have the Orthodox, Reform, Conservative, Hasidic, and Kabbalah movements. Surely one of those “distorts their teachings to justify terrorism”. Nope. Wrong again.

You would think with all those different religious goups and beliefs, at least one of the global terrorists would have been non-Muslim. But, shock of all shocks, that isn’t the case either. The fact remains that every global terrorist thus far has been acting in the name of Allah, practicing Islamic beliefs, and thus, Muslim.

To say the term “Islamic fascist” is misleading or offensive is ridiculous. We are at war with Islamic fascists, no matter how Mr. Feingold, and others, try to distort that truth.
