Country singer Troy Lee Gentry appeared today in federal court in connection with the killing of a tame black bear that federal officials say he bought, shot in an enclosed pen, tagged as if the animal had been killed in the wild, then arranged for the doctoring of a videotape of the alleged "wild" kill.
Excuse me, but what kind of person does something like this? Did he do this so he could show people how tough he was, being a bear hunter and all?
The indictment also states that Gentry bought the bear, named "Cubby," from Greenly for about $4,650. The bear's death was videotaped, and the tape later edited so Gentry appeared to shoot the bear in a "fair chase" hunting situation, the government further alleged.

How the HELL can you be so quick to judge someone? For any one of you who think Troy is guilty just because you believe the first thing you read… shame on you. You need to look at both sides of the story. We know he killed the bear. But for God's sake, he was hunting. People DO that. Nothing wrong with it. It's how we get meat. Also, Marvin Greenly, the guy who sold Troy the bear, has been known to, well, trick hunters into hunting illegally just to make some extra bucks. If Troy DID do anything illegal, he didn't know it. And the bear was NEVER in a pen or cage. Plus, Troy has a wife and kids at home, a great career… he wouldn't risk all that purposely, knowing he could go to jail. I've been a fan for a long time, and it just doesn't seem like he would do something like that anyway. I'm not trying to start a huge argument here; just PLEASE be mature about this and try to think BOTH sides through before trying to wreck his reputation.

Troy Gentry isn't a fool. He knew what he was doing, and what he did was wrong on any level that you choose to look at it. You just do not pen up a pet animal and shoot it and pass it off as if you were the mighty hunter. Troy should be ashamed. It's a screwed up country when we crucify a lady for opposing the President but it's ok to shoot tame animals in a pen.
