Kevin Hastings is ready to stake out his piece of the good life. The last thing he has in mind is a spot under the Chicago River… Courtesy of the local mafia.

I sat down with this book almost immediately upon receiving it. About an hour after sitting down with it, I had to double check the author of the book. I had heard of Craig Parshall before, but I hadn’t had a chance to read any of his books. I almost thought I was reading a John Grisham novel. This book was so well written, I decided to re-read it two nights ago, to refresh my mind before I wrote this review.

Mr. Parshall is very adept at character development, and it doesn’t take much for the reader to get to know all of the characters in the book, including the ones who only last for a few pages. You end up feeling like you know Kevin Hastings, and wish there was something you could do to help him. There are very few books I have really been able to “get into”, but I fell into this one so fast I almost lost consciousness.

I don’t know exactly what I was expecting from this book, but any expectations were blown away the moment I opened it. Most books have “slow parts”, yet I actually got so involved in the storyline, I had to stop reading at times just to catch my breath.

If you’re looking for a heart-pounding legal thriller, then I highly recommend this 5-star book!
