The Power Of The Almighty Dollar

Excuse me?
“We were always hesitant to include the term ‘American way’ because the meaning of that today is somewhat uncertain. The ideal hasn’t changed. I think when people say ‘American way,’ they’re actually talking about what the ‘American way’ meant back in the ’40s and ’50s, which was something more noble and idealistic.”
Since when is “American way” an uncertain term? When did this happen?
While some people may lead you to believe that the term is something Americans only reminisce about, I bet there are far more people who know exactly what the term means to them today, than those who believe the term is no longer relevant.
While audiences in Dubuque might bristle at Superman’s newfound global agenda, patrons in Dubai likely will find the DC Comics protagonist more palatable. And with the increasing importance of the overseas boxoffice — as evidenced by summer tentpoles like “The Da Vinci Code” — foreign sensibilities can no longer be ignored.
And there you have it. The meaning of “American way” is not uncertain. It is not ‘a loaded and antiquated expression’ as they put it. Their decision not to use the term in the movie was based on one thing. The almighty dollar.
Chasing that almighty dollar. Many think that’s the American way. The only difference between now and the ’40s and ’50s, is that people didn’t crap on America when they were chasing it back then.
I guess some of us are just more noble and idealistic than others.
